Mihai Raneti spoke at Codiax in December 2019, on cybersecurity for the future and why hardware is what changes the game.
The argument then was the one the company still makes, applied to security rather than to intelligence. Protection written in software runs on top of a machine that an attacker can also reach, so every layer added above it inherits whatever the layer below it gets wrong. Put the behaviour into the component instead and there is nothing above it to subvert.
That line of work is where the processor came from. Building security into silicon meant building a component that both holds a state and acts on it, and that same property is what a neural network needs from a memristor. The company that went to Codiax to talk about cybersecurity is the company now building neuromorphic hardware, and it is the same idea both times.
